ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY POLICY
British Bakels (hereinafter known as ‘the Company’) recognises the importance of protecting the environment for future generations and is committed to conducting business in an environmentally responsible manner and carrying out our activities in a way which has minimum negative environmental impact.
This Environmental Policy outlines our commitment to sustainability and the responsibilities of our team members to achieve these goals, and applies to all areas of our operations, including procurement, operations, packaging, distribution, and administrative activities.
The Company, so far as is reasonably practicable, will seek to identify the key environmental impacts of its activities and will work to reduce any adverse impacts by:
- Complying with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and any other requirements applicable to the Company
- Reducing waste at source via the efficient use of resources and encouraging reuse and recycling of waste, disposing of any waste produced in an environmentally sensitive way
- Working towards reducing our energy consumption and reducing our carbon footprint by, increasing the use of renewable energy sources, minimising water use, improving water management, and preventing pollution by controlling emissions and discharges to the environment
- Introducing packaging or delivery formats for our products that reduce the amount of packaging used and make packaging more easily recyclable and more efficient in distribution, taking every possible opportunity to source materials and packaging from sustainable sources
- Considering the impact on the environment of any future capital expenditure projects
- Providing training and other resources to employees to enhance their environmental awareness and performance
- Regularly monitoring and reviewing environmental performance and setting measurable targets for continuous improvement
- Engaging stakeholders (including suppliers and customers) in our environmental initiatives.
- Promoting a culture of sustainability within the organisation
The Company will have in place the following roles to ensure commitment to this policy:
- Managing Director. lead the environmental strategy and set overall sustainability goals
- Environmental, Health & Safety Manager. develop and oversee environmental policies, ensure compliance with legislation and report on environmental performance
- Department Leads: Implement department-specific environmental practices and ensure their teams’ compliance with environmental policies
This policy will be cascaded and communicated to all employees and will be reviewed annually to ensure its continuing relevance and effectiveness. Updates will be made as necessary to incorporate legislative changes, technological advancements, and stakeholder feedback.
This policy is approved by the senior leadership team and is a testament to British Bakels’ commitment to a sustainable future.
