Congratulations!

We are delighted that you have been selected to take part in this years’ prestigious Renshaw Cup event.

You will be joined alongside other top students from across the UK, all of you awarded as Renshaw Cup winners.

We are excited to be relaunching this event after more than a two-decade hiatus, taking place in Liverpool, the home of the Renshaw brand. The three-day event allows you to see behind the scenes of a commercial operation,
with tutorials from industry experts and an exclusive factory tour.

Finally, you will complete a challenge designed to test creativity, technical ability, and professionalism to be named the overall champion of champions. A full breakdown of the challenge is included in this pack.

We are looking forward to celebrating you as a Renshaw Cup Winner and hope this event will be both memorable and inspiring.

Day 3 – Challenge

Create Your Own Coffee Shop Bake

On the final day of your Renshaw Cup experience, we are going to hold an exciting challenge. This is an opportunity to showcase your creativity and talent in either bakery or sugar craft. The theme around the challenge is “Coffee Shop”. If you were to launch your own bake in a coffee shop, what would it be? Think about flavours, layers, textures, colours, decoration etc.

We would like you to prepare a story around your creation, approximately 100 words: What it is called? Why does it stand out from the others? Who is it targeted at? What drink would complement it the best? And anything else you can think of why you’ve chosen your bake.

Please email your Coffee Shop creation 100 word story to renshawcup@bakels.com by Friday 4th July. Don’t worry about being slightly under or over 100 words this is just a guide. This will allow the judges to read about the task you will be creating before you arrive at the event.

You have this time between now and the event to start thinking of what you will create. Think outside the box. Let your creativity run wild! On the day of the challenge, you will have 4 hours to spend on your bake. Whether your strength sits in baking or cake decorating or both, you can choose to create whatever suits your skillset.

We will have a selection of our delicious cake mixes to hand, so if you would prefer to focus on your cake decorating skills, go for it! You will not be marked down for using our cakes mixes. If you prefer to spend more time on the baking and less on the cake decorating that is also fine! We understand time is limited and we want you to feel confident in what you are making.

Click here for a list of products that will be available for you on the day. We will also be sending your college a hamper, with a selection of products if you wish to practice prior to the event.

Please ensure all your cake is edible, with no licensed characters.

You will be required to bake up to 6 portions (6 brownies, muffins, slices etc), submitting one batch, in a single serve style. We will supply everyone with the same black slate to present their bake. The size of the slate is 30cm x 20cm.

Should you require any extra ingredients for your Coffee Shop bake that aren’t listed on the next page, you have up to an additional £20 to spend.

We will purchase these extras on your behalf and have them ready on the day and marked up for your use only. Please send us detailed descriptions of the extra items and email them to renshawcup@bakels.com before Wednesday 2nd July. Please try and stay within the £20 limit.

Equipment for your task

The task will be held at The City of Liverpool College.

There is a fully equipped baking centre at the college and you will have a dedicated workspace for the task.

We do understand you may want to bring your own baking tins or cake decorating tools so you know you can achieve the best results with your own equipment. Please ensure you take full responsibility of also taking these tins back with you on that day as we can’t promise we can return them to you. There are baking tins at the college in a variety of sizes that will also be available on the day.

Champion of Champions

The overall winner will receive the Champions of Champions title and will have the exciting opportunity to come and exhibit at Cake International.

We would love to help give you the best start to your baking career, and we would also love to feature your journey on our social media platforms.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at renshawcup@bakels.com.
